Blog: June 30. Stuck at my desk

It’s Sunday arvo and I’ve spent the week stuck at my desk. No riding for me. I did take the Dominator for a very quiet lap up through Dorrigo and back through Lowanna and Coramba yesterday, and that was worth waiting all week for. It was a glorious morning and I had to be really careful to not get any dirt on it. I bumped into a couple of blokes at Juan’s – one of…

A message from Cousin Matthew

What a great day well done to all involved, the organisers and all the riders who took part. Chris and I had a ball and it was great fun having the Lismore boys tag along with us. I’m so glad I made the effort to travel down from Beenleigh especially for this event. I received the HARD LUCK AWARD and except it with great honor for two reasons: 1. With the sun/glare/KTM dust in my…

Blog: June 23. Poker Run done. What next?

The Poker Run went off a treat – or so it seemed to me. I sat in the Macca’s car park all day drinking coffee and yarning with Gav Gill and later on, Chris Laan. That was a pleasant Saturday for me. I’d been on a four-day ride for work last week, so I enjoyed sitting in the sun and doing not much. I also enjoyed seeing everyone else have a good time. The day…

POKER RUN BRIEFING. READ THIS.

READ THIS. MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND IT. * You must download the route sheets from the DualSport Australia website. There won’t be any route sheets at the start. * I will be on site at Macca’s south of Coffs from around 8.00am. I’ll be in the black van with the bike trailer on the back. If I’m not actually sitting there, be patient. I’ll be getting a coffee. * My phone number is 0411 023…

Blog: June16. The Poker Run is good to go.

After several committee meetings we’ve decided to offer shorter loops. Pottsy has done all the work, and he’s been out and set a few new loops. So now riders should be able to get five loops in the day. That’s changed my view a bit. Originally I was thinking everyone just ride as they can, and they’d get five cards at the end of the day anyway, and maybe we could make the long loops…

Pottsy’s long weekend ride

So with an unbelievably clear, sunny day only one other rider joined me on the Monday of the long weekend. It was one of my main riding buddies from years ago, Mal, who I’ve ridden everywhere from here on the north coast to the high country in Victoria (although many years ago). Mal was back on a bike again after several years off doing the family/work thing, and armed with a TTR250 he was as…

Blog: June 9. Two weeks to the Poker Run

It’s Sunday arvo. Yesterday Craig Murcott, Alec Whitelaw and myself went out to ride the northern loop of the Poker Run. Alec is new to our group, but he and his KLR are as keen as mustard, and not only did Alec do the righty and deck it right in front of me (so I knew there was one line through the wet clay I needn’t bother trying), but when we pulled up at Glenreagh…

Ride with Pottsy on Monday, June 9

The long weekend’s coming, and Pottsy – ride leader extraordinaire – is going for a lap on Monday. not only that, but he’s looking for people to ride with him. Here’s wot he rote: Can you put up on the site I am going for a ride on Monday if anyone wants to join in,  just an easy one around here somewhere, destination to be decided by the gods on the day,  anyone welcome –…

Murcott magic

I asked Craig Murcott to do some repair on the fairing of the Dominator. I gave it to him looking like this… Craig gave it back looking like this… It’s very difficult to capture, but the black has just a hint of metal flake… Is it just me, or is that the sexiest thing since Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Balls video? Gawd. Now I’m scared to ride it in case I damage it. I asked Craig…

The Joker loop

Marty H has sent in some info on the Joker loop for the Poker run. Just a reminder how this loop will work. Every loop a rider completes earns a playing card (or maybe two, depending on time). After five loops every rider will have a poker hand. The loops are true dualsport riding, with plenty of scenic bitumen and the rest open dirt roads. Pottsy set the loops in his car, so they’re genuine…
