I’ve had a big weekend, but it wasn’t riding, so not much to tell about.
On the other hand, Pottsy’s ride seems to have had a healthy response. You can see a couple of comments and I have a ride report and some pics from Marty Hardcore. I’ll get them posted as soon as I can.
It looks as though I’ll be out riding with some big names soon. It never ceases to amaze me how I’ve been able to ride great events and bikes, and with some great riders. I’ve never made a secret of my being a very mediocre rider, so I think about what it means to be able to call people like Stephen Gall and have him apparently happy to hear from me. It’s even more amazing that I suggest a couple of days riding and he’s even happier about that. That’s the joy of working on a bike magazine, of course. But still, it doesn’t change the fact that people the calibre of Steve Gall doesn’t frantically make excuses about how busy he is when I call. It’s funny, because when Gally suggests I grab a mountain bike or a kayak and go out with him for a day, I start panicing and inventing all sorts of excuses. I think I even remember claiming to be possibly pregnant one time when he suggested a day in the kayaks. When someone with Gally’s level of fitness suggests Kayaking or mountain biking, you need to shit-sure of your own immortality.
It’s still a thrill when someone like Gally says he has a Super Tenere and would like to get away fro a day or two. So that’s what’s coming up for. It’d be handy if I could get some riding in before that, but it doesn’t look likely. Fortunately, all of the world-class riders riders I’ve been lucky enough to follow on bikes have all been incredibly courteous and ride along at my no-doubt tedious slow pace without showing any annoyance at all.
So there’s a ride with Steve Gall coming up, and possibly a few of the Yamaha Motor Australia management guys, and they’re all damn sharp on a bike, even if they don’t have a basket of Mr Motocross trophies in the back corner of their office.
I’ll get this ride report and pics up.
