Blog: March 8. Granite Crumble is set to rock.

It’s Sunday arvo after of a big week.

First I rode work’s Triumph 800XCx to Sydney and back on Thursday, and it was a real treat.

I’m not too fussed about riding the Pacific or Hume Highways in general, but the weather was so nice, and the bike so smooth and enjoyable, I thought I’d give it a shake. I did the right thing. The temperatures was perfect, and riding back under the full moon was a treat.

But that’s all the riding I’ve done this week. The rest of it has all been chained to my desk for work.

Granite Crumble Ride

Dave Ramsay’s getting a good response for his Granite Crumble Ride, and he’s sent in some updated details. Here they are in Dave’s own words…

crossing11-12 April

Overnight at the Jennings Hotel on NSW/Qld border.
Minimum fuel range ~230kmsSaturday: Meet at Maccas, South Grafton, reading to leave at 8.30am.
Clarence Way – Drake – Sandy Hills (One sandy creek crossing which can be detoured) – Basket Swamp – Wellington Rock.
Tenterfield for lunch and fuel.
Basket Swamp – Boorook Road – Storm King Dam – Girraween National Park – Jennings Hotel

Sunday: 8.30am departure
Doctors Nose – Draining Rock – Pyes Creek Road – Torrington – Carpet Snake Fire Trail – Emmaville – Glen Innes for fuel and lunch.

Still looking at options for heading home from Glen Innes.Mix of tar, light, sandy tracks and plenty of decomposed granite. Some tight rocky sections and one long hill. Overall nothing too hard. Some of the tracks are subject to washouts. Approximately 600km round trip back to Grafton.

Jennings Hotel offers accommodation including bed, dinner and cooked breakfast for $60/head. First in best dressed to grab one of the 15 or so beds (depending on who you’ll sleep with). Alternatively a swag on the grass with the bikes in the backyard of the pub $50/head.

Plenty of spectacular scenery, great riding and dubious company. This is a social ride and unsupported so you’ll need to carry your own spares etc.

Please let me know by 21st March so I can give numbers to the pub.
