Blog: March 7. Saved by Ramdog!

OneDayChallenge018It’s Sunday arvo and I’ve been watching Toby Price drive a stadium Truck at the Clipsal 500 in the lead-up to the V8s. I have to be honest, it looks pretty hilarious. Toby seems top be driving well, but the action of those trucks on that tarmac street circuit is just plain wrong.

Meanwhile, I was about to have to confess to another week of no riding when an e-mail popped up from Dave Ramsay saying he has a ride coming up if I’d like to post details about it.

Phew.

Here’s what Dave has posted on Facebook:

Meet up at Ebor at 11.00am, ride mostly dirt to Barraba, then get the key to the track up to the summit of Mt Kaputar.

Camp overnight at Dawson Springs National Park camp, complete with showers and gas barbeques.

Up early to have a cuppa with the Governor, great sunrises up there. Have a bit of an explore, then back down the way we came up to Barraba and head for home via numerous options. Karen and I will head west from up top en-route to Cameron Corner via Quambone, Tilpa etc.

* Lismore folk, we’ll meet and leave from Coraki at 7.00am
* Grafton mob, Shell Servo near Grafton Motorcycles at 9.00am.
* Coffs crowd, Ebor at 11.00am.

Need to carry:
* Basic camping gear, but it will be cold up there
* Minimal cooking gear, tucker for dinner and brekkie. Coffee!

We’ll grab a quick lunch in Armidale or bring something. Cold beverages can be bought in Barraba, 60kms from camp. It’s a rough track, so shaken and stirred.

If it all goes pear-shaped with flat tyres etc, we can camp at Horton Falls with minimal facilities and ride up the mountain in the morning.

This ride is all pretty easy, mostly 2-4 with a little bit of 5 on the Denise scale up the Mountain. It’ll be a big day so we’ll need to push on but it won’t be a race. One for all and all for one! Ensure your bike is in good nick with reasonable tyres and preferably heavy-duty tubes. There are some good rocks out that way.

Please read the disclaimer in the files section.

Any queries just ask.

The disclaimer must be on Facebook somewhere too, so you’d best go and check out the page at https://www.facebook.com/events/1073261946068871/

Dave and Karen have been running some great rides, so it’ll be a good one.

Meanwhile, Marty HC and Lean Mean Dean were heading out for a run to Ebor today, and I was invited, but I have the embarrassment of being bikeless. The Dominator’s still with Dan Vaughan waiting for parts, the KLR went back to Kawasaki during the week. Even my Yamaha road bike is out on loan for a while. Craig Murcott has the Montessa, so all I have left is the Suzuki – I missed the opening road race last weekend because I was at my desk working – and the KTM. Marty’s riding at Ebor, so there’s no grasstracking today.

That’s all okay. I’ve had a rough couple of weeks with work, and I’ve been able to catch up on mowing and a few other bits and pieces around home.

I haven’t any riding planned for this coming week, but the following week I ride the Ducati Multistrada Enduro. At $30,000 for the base model, and with 160hp as it rolls off the dealer floor, it might do me good to rest up a bit before I start trying to deal with that exotic beastie.

I am looking forward to it, though.

Until next week.
