Blog: April 29. Back from the Coffs KTM Cameron Corner Caper

_MG_2221The distance it is run,

The capering completed.

Nearly blinded by the pre-dusk sun

The problems were defeated.

Not all who started stood triumphant

At Cameron Corner store,

But all can hold their heads up high,

Adventurers to the core.

A report when I’ve had time to unpack the bike and grab a coffee.

As I sit here still spitting red sand out of my mouth, I can’t quite get the smile off my face. A huge thanks to Gav & Tom for organising such a great adventure and showing unending patience and consideration!
Also thanks to Dave & Pete (and anyone else) for standing my bike up multiple times, straightening gear levers, handlebars and panniers….). A special thanks to Nick for getting me up and off the middle of the track!
We made it to Wanaaring in time for my bike to join Kev and Glenn’s for the trip back to Bourke. (Poor John with the tilt truck probably thought he must have been a pseudo ambulance for the day.)
I was very pleased to see our biscuits made it to the destination.
Dave & I took it easy on the way home, following the bitumen to Charleville, Toowoomba then onto home.
Injuries are improving, and the bike is in for the insurance quote.
Fantastic to meet such a great group of people and I look forward to meeting up with you again, and perhaps having another ride with you! Regards, Karen

Gav & Tom, a huge Thankyou for all the work you put in to making this trip happen. Our DNF wasn’t in the script, but we will try again. Not sure how those honey biccies would have gone down with beer? We were going to share a coffee with Tom on a sandhill out there somewhere, poured from my thermos with a phone cord stuck in it to the power socket.( espresso machine ). It was great to meet and ride with you all, we’d both like to do it again. Not surprised the Roo came off second best with Gibbo . Hope Kevin and Glen are well on the mend. Nick the Wanarring Nightrider, what an Awesome effort, while I did enjoy riding back on my own on Sat after Karen’s little lay down in the sand, there is no way I’d do it in the dark!! We rode home via Charleville on sunday so Karen wouldn’t have to go round too many corners, plus we didn’t need to be home till lunchtime on tuesday so going a different way home was interesting. We spent 2 hours with Mary the 89 yr old Publican at the Border Pub at Barringun, she was an absolute champion Lady, worth riding up there to see her again soon we think, Who’s up for it ?
Cheers to you all , Dave.

Hey guys huge thanks to Gav & Tom for organising the trip and especially Gav for keeping an eye out for me on my first Adventure. I had an absolute blast but most of all the highlight of my Adventure was the fantastic crew that i rode with and the people I met along the way. Cheers
