Blog: December 22. Merry Christmas to everyone.

Hello to everyone. I admit it: I’m rooted. It’s Sunday arvo, and I’ve dragged my semi-conscious self to the in-laws for lunch and tried to stay awake, and now I’m slumped in front of the desk looking forward to the time I can say, “Off to bed!” without looking TOO much like I’m a worn-out old sook. This state of affairs is brought about yesterday’s Longest Day ride. I’ve done some fabulous rides this year,…

Pottsy’s November 17 ride.

After a few days of wild storms with hail pounding the Coffs Coast I was surprised to wake up and find it a clear, bright morning with not a cloud to be seen. With adrenalin already pumping I wheeled the DR out into the sunshine, threw on the AlpineStars and Arai and hit the starter button. Nothing. I stayed calm and checked I had turned the key on properly and hit the button again. Still…

Pottsy’s ride on November 17

Hi everyone! If we meet at the jetty in Coffs at 7.30am, and after a photo or two, leave and head west. Dave and Karen, if we meet you at Glens Creek Road turn off, Nymboida (at the bus shelter) at, say, 9.30am. There seems to be a bit of interest, so it’s looking like it’s going to be a great day. A cracker ride from Pottsy.

Hey everyone. I’ve been busy riding the little bike of late so today was the day to bust out the DR-X – ‘X’ for all the extras on it . As the days were getting longer it was time for a longer ride, up the hill behind Coramba and across to Nymboida. They have graded Black Mountain Rd. Now, there are many great pleasures in life, but getting my DR working hard in fourth gear…

Blog: September 30. One-day Challenge #02. Done and very dusted.

It’s Saturday arvo as I write this and we’ve all spent a very pleasant morning dawdling around in the dust. Maybe it was just because I was sweeping, but it was shithouse dusty. Still, it was a great group, with a couple of new faces and a few old ones as well (some are getting quite old). It was great to see such a wide range of bikes – including an 1190R…in all that dust!…

Blog: September 23. One-day Challenge #02

We’re good to go for next Saturday, September 28. Marty H has chosen another loop, and it’s a ball-tearer. It’s interesting, too. Last time we had a heap of easy, flowing bitumen and dirt road with a couple of dead-set obstacles along the way. This time I suspect the dirt road itself might raise the heart rate in places. A careful driver could drive a family car around about 99.9 per cent of the course….

Blog: August 12. The One Day Challenge was a bottler!

It’s actually Saturday night as I write this, and I’m grinning like a madman. The first-ever One Day Challenge was a ball-tearer. Marty H turned on a really awesome route and Mother Nature turned on a premium day. The group was solid gold, with great people who all showed up with the best possible attitude. We kicked off from Macca’s south of Coffs, and a near disaster was avoided by the narrowest possible margin. The…

A great yarn from Pottsy!

It started as any time off work does: slept in, didn’t pack a thing beforehand, then left late on a cold, cloudy winter day heading north in search of warmer weather. I hit the dreaded tar from Coffs to Grafton then up the mountain to Glen Innes. At the top of the mountain I was cold, wet and feeling miserable. I got passed by a 650 V-strom, so not to let the single-cylinder brigade down…

Pottsy’s ride. Sunday, July 14

We had a great day out. 300 kms of loamy leaf mulch. 6 mighty DR650’s Marty actually had tyres with tread on them, no he really did! Marty gave us a demonstration on how to change back tyres in the bush – apparently a week ago he decided he didn’t need rim-locks – tore out the valve stem. Ride included secret squirrel trails – known only to a chosen few sworn to silence by an…

Blog: July 1. The first One-day challenge

I’ve been in Brisbane all week, working, and the last thing I felt like doing on a wet Saturday morning was to go flogging around a slippery, muddy forest trying to set up the first One-day Challenge. I’d just talked myself out of it – even though I promised on last week’s blog that I’d at least make a start – when Marty Hardcore phoned and shamed me into it. So it’s on. August 10….
