Friday arvo grasstrack

Years ago when I organized my first event without a club (Bush to beach 2 day trailride) I invited a few mags. I had always loved magazines so to meet Tom, Clubby and Tuffy was a blast. Although I knew TF was local it was surprising how close he was and baffling how he didn’t like extra tight singletrack in Piney. When I asked what he liked he replied grasstrack, I told him I have…

Party crasher

I woke early Saturday morning, not sure what time because I broke my watch Friday to Mary calling me. Keen as I jumped up and dressed quickly, I had wanted to visit Mary.s View for a while, I had even penciled it in for Sunday but with no response, I thought I should go now. That and my wife wanted me to help paint today. Free So just before 6am I sneaked out of the…

Left, no right. Right, no left.

I probably tend to keep to myself or small groups a bit much. Nothing like a small group of good riders to cover a lot of ground without hassle. This ride was a bit different, for a start it wasn’t even my ride, Darren whom I have known for years posted on a couple of adventure sites that he was keen for a Brooms Head ride on Saturday open to all sounded good. After my…

Stuck in a rut

Not so much me, things aren’t moving as quickly as I would like but more literally when I went riding. With wheels and tyres plus suspension, I decided to explore some favorite old enduro bike trails in our area. These trails are the ones I have ridden and loved since I was a kid. Boy are they different, so much of our riding is overgrown, great tracks haven’t been kept clear and disappeared, more traffic…

Stage one modifying a DR650 for free

I have left my DR stock for the first six months because it was new and shiny but there comes a time to start bolting things on. Well actually I put lower footpegs on after the first month and Suzuki’s adventure kit provided a bashplate and barkbusters from new. This stage planned itself, I started by walking into my shed and looking around, the big yellow IMS tank stood out so it was grabbed, the…

Mid-week thaw out

I had roughed out a route for the congregation, finding the right kilometers on a different route in the same place is getting hard. Plenty of longer options but Tom likes to keep it short and sweet. Old and soft I wasn’t very keen on the 180km of tar on a cold morning. Tom was keen to ride, I had checked the weather report and Guyra was going to be its winterly self. I casually…

Open for business

Bello range, not me yet. Posts have been few and far between lately. As some of you know I have been flat out organizing a new business. Whilst it’s mostly done it sometimes seems like the obstacles just line up and try to stop you or make you change direction. Sunday I ventured onto the ranges behind Bello, after the big wind 6 months ago reports have been flooding in that the obstacles were well…

Rose Coloured Glasses

The rain woke me at 2am, with a ride planned for Broom Heads, postponed from the sunny yesterday to today to get a riding partner. The area is often dry so as I checked the weather radar only to find the whole area of the ride buried in rain. The morning might change things as I tried to get back to sleep. The morning did change things, Jessie canceled at 6am, and the rain was…

Unemployed

Finally, some riding, been on the bike every day this week, mostly short rides 100-200km all in the local area. From the headwaters of the Bellingen river to the mouth, south as well, there is so much good riding in our valley and the next as well. Been a bit slack with posts but with no riding, it doesn’t leave much to say . Hopefully, lots more riding this week, the camera has gone back…

Commuting can be fun and a bit scary

I outsmarted myself this week, twice actually on two consecutive days too. Looks like I don’t learn. 8 Hour   Sunday was the 8 hour at Ulong, so I figured make a bit of a ride out of it. Craig and Trev were taking the car so after an oil and filters and a newish tyre I was off. It was too easy to just ride up and I like doing a loop so I…
