Blog: September 24. Way out west

Actually I haven’t been ‘way’ out west. I went for a lap out to Roma in Queensland. It’s probably on the edge of civilised world, but it’s not a long way out. The ride came about because the KLR Riders Rally was on this long weekend at Stonehenge in Queensland. Stonhenge is way out west. It makes Longreach look cosmopolitan. Anyway, I was intending to ride out with Grafton’s Mac Eggins. We’d ridden to last…

Blogeroony: September 17. All done for another year

The hoo-haa this past week has been about work’s Congregation. I rode up to Inverell on Wednesday to say hello to the Vickerys at Green Valley Farm and see if everything was ready to go, and of course it was. Those guys are fabulous. There’d been a few millimetres of rain so the venue wasn’t totally dried out, and numbers were big – over 300 – so catering was going full-steam. I rode out to…

Blog: September 3. A bit frustrating

I’ve been in Sydney for most of the week, and on one of the days I was able to do a few laps of Eastern Creek as a guest of BMW Motorrad. Beemer runs an event called ‘RR Experience’ which is sort of a ride day. Punters can bring their own bike along, no matter what brand, and spend a few days cutting laps. But the essence of it all from BMW’s point of view…

Blog: August 20. Mac’s doohickey fell off

I was scheduled to do attend the fourth round of the Aussie SXS championship in Queensland this weekend. It’s a buggy event, and while it was work, I thought I’d make the most of it and ride up. Fellow KLR owner Mac Eggins was free, so we decided we’d make a weekend of it. The idea was to ride up in a leisurely way on Saturday, get the pics I needed in the arvo, then…

Blog: August 13. Hard at work

It looks as though I didn’t blog last week. That’s a bit embarrassing. I thought I had. Blame it on jetlag. As I recall, I arrived back from Alice Springs on the last flight on Sunday night, so now I think about it, I probably didn’t do a blog. Good on me. To catch up, then. I spent the whole of the week leading up to last Sunday in Alice Springs riding the Red Centre…

Blog: August 6. Struggling

I’ve been riding the Benelli TRK502X in Italy. I arrived home yesterday arvo (Saturday) and, after 72 hours travel for 48 hours on the ground in northern Italy, I’m a tad disoriented and jetlagged. As much as I dislike travelling overseas for work, especially fast trips where I spend more time in airports and aircraft than I do at the destination, this was one of the most pleasant and enjoyable I’ve done. The bike was…

Blog: July 30. Just quickly…

I’m early! It’s Sunday morning and here I am. I should be an example to everyone. It’s been a hectic week, and the next fortnight will be worse, so I’m posting a quick hello before I head out to jump on the Benelli TRK502X (and therefore I won’t have missed a blog). It’s been a week at my desk – there’s nothing new in that – with a couple of quick laps into town on…

Blog: July 23. Lots happening

It’s Sunday arvo and I went to the Coffs City Moto ride this morning. There were quite a few riders there I’d seen at the last one, and that’s no surprise. I think the rides are excellent, and it’s no wonder Coffs City Moto is getting a good roll-up. That, plus there’s a coffee cart at the store before the start. I had every intention of doing the ride, but it didn’t work out for…

Blog: July 16. A lazy week

It’s been a strange week. Normally after a trip to Sydney for work I have a little free time to catch up on things at home, but it hasn’t worked out that way so far. This past week I’ve hardly left my desk. Today has been a sporting overload, though. Tennis has nothing to do with anything, I know, but anyone who saw last night’s/today’s interrupted Wimbledon semi surely must be as in awe as…
